Trust

What happens to your shop if Fenfair shuts down.

This page exists because every handmade seller who has been on Etsy or Shopify for more than two years has watched a platform make a decision that hurt their business. We don't expect you to take a leap of faith. Here is what Fenfair commits to, in writing, about the worst case.

Commitment

Your business survives our business.

Fenfair is built by an operator (Brian Williams, firehelmetshields.com, 14k+ Etsy sales since 2013) for operators. The whole point of Fenfair is to give handmade sellers infrastructure they own, not infrastructure they rent from a platform that can pull the rug. That means we make explicit, written commitments about what happens to your data, your domain, your sales records, and your customers if Fenfair stops operating.

Notice

90 days minimum.

If Fenfair decides to shut down, we commit to giving every active seller a minimum of 90 days written notice before turning the service off. That notice will include:

  • The exact date the service will stop accepting new orders
  • The exact date the storefront will stop serving public traffic
  • A guided export path for every piece of your data
  • Migration documentation for the major alternative platforms (Shopify, Big Cartel, Square Online, Squarespace Commerce)
  • A phone number and email staffed during business hours for migration questions

We will not surprise you. We will not change the terms in the last week. The notice will be honest about the reason.

Data

Full export at any time, with or without us.

You can download a complete export of your Fenfair account from /settings/account→ Download your data. This works today, not just at shutdown. The export is a single ZIP containing your storefront content, all products, all orders (last 7 years for tax records), all customer records, all subscriber lists, all quote requests, all proofs, all production jobs, all newsletter campaigns, and your full audit log. It is machine-readable and human-readable. You don't have to ask us. You don't have to wait. The export tool is yours.

If we shut down, the export tool stays live for at least 90 days past the service-off date so you have time to grab everything.

Domain

Custom domains transfer cleanly.

If you set up a custom domain through Fenfair (your-shop.com), you own that domain. It is registered in your name with the registrar of your choice, not held by Fenfair. The DNS configuration we manage is a CNAME or A record pointing at our hosting. At shutdown, you redirect that record to your new platform and the domain continues to work. Buyers who bookmarked your-shop.com still reach your-shop.com. The brand asset you built does not evaporate.

Customers

Your buyer list belongs to you.

Every buyer email, name, order history, and message thread is exported with your data. There is no Fenfair-side buyer account that gates your relationship with the people who bought from you. When you move platforms, you can import that list into your next email tool (Mailchimp, ConvertKit, Beehiiv, etc.) and continue talking to your buyers as if nothing happened. Your customer relationships are not held hostage to our business model.

Records

Seven years of orders, exportable.

The IRS expects you to retain financial records for at least seven years. Fenfair retains your order records, payment records, refund records, and tax-relevant audit logs for that full period, and they remain in the export ZIP even if you close your account, until the seven-year window expires. If we shut down, those records remain accessible through the export tool for the wind-down window plus the legal retention period.

Guarantee

If we wind down, the storefront renderer becomes open source.

In the event Fenfair shuts down operations entirely (not a sale, not an acquisition, actual cessation), Fenfair commits to publishing the storefront-rendering engine under a permissive open-source license. That means a technically capable seller (or anyone who can hire a developer for a day) can spin up their archived Fenfair storefront on their own infrastructure indefinitely. Your shop does not die because we did.

This is not a marketing line. It is a written commitment in our shutdown runbook, and we will publish it to GitHub at shutdown.

Honesty

What this page does not cover.

We are honest with you about what survivability does and doesn't mean:

  • AI generation does not survive shutdown. If we shut down, you can't generate new product descriptions or storefront drafts through the Fenfair AI tools. The drafts you already created and saved remain in your export.
  • Custom integrations don't transfer automatically. If you wired Stripe Connect through Fenfair, you'll need to re-authenticate on your next platform. Same for Shippo, Resend, etc.
  • Payment processing requires a new platform. Stripe Connect accounts are tied to Fenfair's platform during shutdown wind-down. You'll need to migrate to a new Stripe Connect platform (e.g., Shopify, Squarespace) or a direct Stripe standard account.
  • Fenfair Core subscription fees paid in advance are non-refundable beyond the normal cancellation terms in /terms. Wind-down notice gives you time to cancel before your next renewal.

Why

Because the alternative is asking for trust we haven't earned yet.

Fenfair is a young company. We have not been around for a decade. We have not survived a recession. We don't expect you to trust us based on vibes. Publishing this page is the closest we can get to a written guarantee that you are not betting your business on our business. If we are around in 20 years, this page becomes a historical artifact. If we are not, this page becomes the runbook that protects you.

If you have questions about anything on this page, email support@fenfair.com. We answer within five business days.

Review

Living document.
